Dis blykbaar 'n stok-insek.

Daar is nogal baie interessante goed in Marloth.

Cape Rain Frog Breviceps gibbosusor possibly Forest Rain Frog: there are 5 listed in Sasol First Field Guide to Frogs of Southern Africa. I particularly like the charming name Plaintive Rain Frog http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Rain_Frog Pretty feeble But this: The mechanics of froggy on dry land are not that well studied, but the mating calls indicate that there's a lot of it going on. The males ribbit from the undergrowth. Too small to grab his mate when she answers his call, he glues himself to her with a sticky substance from his belly. The female digs a burrow, and eggs are laid not in water, but into this burrow, in their own pool of slime. The eggs mature rapidly into froglets. There is no water-breathing tadpole stage. comes from here: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1916310Which tells me it is called a blaasop in A (I know the fish but not the frog) comes from

First one is a centipede. The nice little black ones which are really millipedes are often mistakenly called centipedes. Beware of centipedes as they can give a nasty bite similar to a bee sting. centi=100 milli=1000 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentipedeThe moth is an Emperor moth (Saturniidae) but I can't find that exact one in Pinhey Moths of Southern Africa. Possibly V. dewitzi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SaturniidaeThe last one is a baardskeerder or jerry-munglum in English. It has 10 legs & is not a spider. Called a sun-spider or Solifuge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SolifugaeI occasionally see a small one on Signal Hill I am surprised you have not seen stick insects before. I had them in my garden in Kenilworth & big ones like you show. If you touch them they freeze, going into a catotonic state (death like state). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stick_insect

Dankie tokkietok.

I have never seen them & can't find them in any of my books. At Kenilworth we had caterpillars that formed a big clump but I never saw them crawling in a procession. In the Lowveld they have 'Processionary moths' "Larvae are far more conspicuous than adults owing to their gregarious habits, and are usually seen crowded together on the trunk of the foodplant .... ocassionally moving in trails from tree to tree. One leads and the rest maintain bodily contact, hence the common name." But the moths have comb like antennae & are nicely patterned in brown & white. The 'Superb false tiger Moth' is somewhat like yours as is the 'Heady Maiden' except the colours are very different but the pattern is similar. But nothing is mentioned about the caterpillars moving in a column. Very interesting & mysterious.
